Breastfeeding Necklace

The Australian Breastfeeding Association’s vision is for breastfeeding to be the normal way to feed and nurture infants, for babies to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months, with continuing breastfeeding for 2 years and beyond.

The Necklace

At around 3-4 months babies become more aware and may develop habits while feeding which cause discomfort for mum. These habits can include: biting, pulling hair, scratching  or pinching, pulling at your clothes and being distracted whilst feeding.

The Necklace

This colourful and interesting breastfeeding necklace can help entertain baby while feeding, allowing for a longer, more peaceful feed, thus encouraging mums to continue breastfeeding for longer.

Advantages of a Breastfeeding Necklace

  • Occupies baby’s hands, away from your hair or skin or clothes
  • Keeps baby’s attention focused on the breast area
  • Dissuades baby from pulling away at distractions, resulting in longer more filling feeds
  • Acts as a soothing and familiar object, thus aiding other caregivers to feed your baby
  • Can help to trigger the let-down reflex when used as a normal part of breastfeeding
  • Can be used when weaning to signal when it’s time for a breastfeed
  • Aids tactile and visual stimulation, promoting cognitive development
  • Improves hand to eye coordination and tracking
  • Aids development of depth perception
  •  Develops colour and size recognition and can be used as a learning tool.  Great for eye spy when they are older (‘Where is the red bead?’)
